Mira Feter

Born Martyna Feter (b. 1989 in Bydgoszcz) – visual artist and founder of “Mira Atelier”.

Education and Beginnings

In her work, she combines deep introspection with the unique symbolism of the body and psyche. She graduated from the State Secondary School of Fine Arts (Artistic Diploma) in Bydgoszcz and the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in Poznań (Design – Bachelor’s degree, Furniture Design – Master’s degree).

The Pseudonym “Mira”

The artist works under the name “Mira” – a name of special significance to her, layered with meaning: in Spanish, “mira” means “look”; in Old Slavic – “peace” or “world”; in Sanskrit – “ocean”; and it also refers to myrrh – an incense associated with the tranquility of the home hearth. It combines elements of her own identity with inspiration drawn from the Polish singer Mira Kubasińska.

Style and Themes of Her Work

Mira creates in the style of magical realism, which for her is not only an aesthetic but also a deeply personal expression of inner experiences. In her paintings and sculptures, she draws upon expressionist forms, rooted in self-awareness and in experiences of altered perception of reality encountered while delving into her own subconscious. Deformed figures with exaggerated features, such as “entangled” eyes or elongated fingers, become metaphors for the artist’s intense emotional states. In her works, grounded in psychological introspection, one can also see influences of naïve art and art brut, which strengthen the authenticity of her expression. She confronts the “darkness” and internal conflicts, creating images in which emotions and state of mind transform the depictions of bodies, giving them unique qualities. Using a distinctive language of body and psyche symbols – the unity of soul and soma – the artist defines her work as psychosomatic art.

Duende – The Creative Spirit

A key element of Feter’s work is the concept of Duende – the Spanish spirit of evocation, the spirit of the earth and inspiration, which becomes an emotional force guiding the artist through the act of creation and engaging the audience in a state of full expression. Duende is not a skill but authenticity, born of the struggle against the limitations of the intellect and of confrontation with the experience of death. In Mira’s art, it manifests in forms that express inner tensions and emotional darkness, as well as in the form of birds – symbolic creatures that become guides and voices of Duende. The artist says: “This spirit, apparition; charm, enchantment – is my companion”.
